High School Placement Process & Timeline

All rising 9th graders must participate in High School Placement by filling out an online preference form, ranking the schools in order of preference. Scholars will be matched to a high school based on their rankings and the number of seats available.

Priority is given to scholars who live closest to the school. For HSLA – Bronx, scholars who live closest to the Bronx will get priority. Scholars with older siblings currently enrolled at either HSLA – Manhattan orHSLA – Bronx will be given priority for that school.

Tenga en cuenta que: this is a CRUCIAL step in the re-enrollment process. Families that do not submit the preference form may jeopardize their scholar’s seat at an SA high school.

Priorities and Rankings
What priorities are offered?

Priorities will be offered in the following order:

  1. Enrolled sibling priority: siblings of scholars already attending a Success Academy middle or high school
  2. Geography priority: distance from home address (of primary guardian) to each applying school
What are school rankings? How do they work?

On the preference form, you will see schools automatically ranked in order of proximity to the primary guardian’s home address (the closest school is ranked 1 and the farthest school is ranked 12). You must confirm these rankings or assign a new numerical ranking to indicate your preference for every school on your child’s application (with #1 being your most preferred school). You may modify your school preference rankings anytime between February 5, and February 12, 2018. You must rank all schools and hit submit for your form to be considered.

Rankings do not guarantee acceptance. Scholars will be matched to a school based on the preference rankings, priorities, a random lottery number, and the number of seats available.

What if I don't get my first choice?

Rankings do not guarantee acceptance. Scholars will be matched to a school based on your preference rankings, priorities, a random lottery number, and the number of seats available. While every effort is made to match scholars to their ranked 1 school, it is not always possible. Families that receive their second or lower ranked school will be automatically placed on a waitlist for higher-ranked school(s).

Will there be wait lists?

Sí. All scholars who do not get their first choice will be kept on a wait list for their higher-ranked school(s). You will be notified if a spot becomes available.
